Google Tests New Shopping Advert User Interface

Google seems to be experimenting with a new interface for their sponsored shopping adverts, and it has caught the attention of many marketers and business owners because of its cleaner and more streamlined look.

Pete Meyers, who’s a Marketing Scientist at Moz and is also known as “Dr. Pete”, noted on Twitter on September 4 that Google has a new “Shop Now” feature for sponsored mobile phones adverts. Specifically, he pointed out that doing a search for cellphones would reveal a product panel that showed tabs for mobile networks (such as Sprint, Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile and Boost Mobile). Meyers explained that the panel appeared on the right-hand part of the search results page and looked like Knowledge Panels.

Jennifer Slegg of The SEM Post commented that the new feature seemed to be a variation of Google’s new Product Listing Ad (which looks like a cross between a PLA and a Knowledge Panel). Meyers agreed, saying that the feature he discovered seemed to be a function that’s specific to mobile phone searches. Other Twitter users also commented on Meyers’ post, with some saying that the updated product panel doesn’t show on their local searches. Barry Schwartz of Search Engine Roundtable admitted that he personally likes the new feature, adding that it’s not clear yet “if and when Google will launch the new look”.
