Smart Traffic SEO Tip #27 – About Region Tags
Previously we discussed Rich snippets and Site Hierarchies displayed in Google search results. Today we’ll tackle Region tags, an additional feature in Google search results that is useful for users. These tags actually provide valuable information about website locations right in the green URL line.
As an example, let’s say you are searching for “Capital City Boxing” which you know is located in Canada. Sometimes in searching for a term in a specific location, none of the results provide any location information in the title or snippet (basically from .com domains). You still have to click the various links in search results and read through the page just to find out the information you are looking for. Another option is to refine your search into “Capital City Boxing Canada”.
But with region tags (encircled in red), there’s no need for you to refine your search or click through the result to figure out which page is the one you’re looking for. Please see image below (from Google’s Example):
Google actually gets theis data from the details you provided in your Google webmaster tools (GWT) account, under “Geographic Targeting settings”.
Note that region tags are shown only in following scenarios:
• For certain domains such as .com and .net where the location information is unclear.
• When the region supplied by the site owner is different from the domain where the search was entered.
