Smart Traffic SEO Tip #8 – Checking for Duplicate Content in Google
Google is hot on duplicate content but some is more damaging than others. If you have good content on your site then others will copy it and post on their sites. This is fine as long as you are being seen as authoritative for it. To check this you can perform a couple of simple searches within Googles index.
The first one to try is to copy a snippet of text from your page and paste it into Googles search field. You should see your page listed first which means that you are seen as authoritative for the content. If there are other sites listed below you with the same content like blogs, article submissions sites or press release sites then this fine. As long as you are number one you shouldn’t have an issue. If however you are not listed first then another site is being seen as authoritative for your content. You could try asking them to remove it but it would probably be easier to just rewrite it. This search will also highlight any mirror domains you have (different domains names that you own with the same content).
Tomorrow we will look at the search command you can use to see if you have large pieces of duplicate text within your own site.
