Smart Traffic SEO Tip #13 – Dealing with Hidden Content

We all know that having hidden content on the page is against Google guidelines. There is some that are hidden for functionality purposes but there are also those that are hidden to manipulate site’s rankings. Looking for hidden content is easy, in our case we use the following methods:

1. http://tool.motoricerca.info/spam-detector/ – this gives us brief idea of hidden text/links.

2. Ctrl – A (Highlight ALL) Method – this is the easiest way to display text/links having same font color with the background.

3. Check for CSS/Javascript hidden text/links – this can be done through disabling CSS/Javascript and then comparing the page with the enabled one.

4. Firebug – this a plugin that can be installed in FireFox and allows you to play around with the code to find hidden content/links

Once you have found any hidden content make sure to remove it. The rule of thumb is if it is not available for the viewer to see and only for the search engine spiders then it is hidden.
