Smart Traffic Review of SEOQuake

In the second of our Smart Traffic Reviews series we will examine one of the many SEO Tools available online. Primarily for Firefox, but now with a Chrome release, SEOQuake is a browser extension that comes with SEOtoolbar, SEObar (seen as html and css on a loaded webpage), and a bar underneath results on different search engines.

SEOQuake is a highly flexible extension which gives you the ability to set different preferences of parameters for Google, Yahoo, Bing, Baidu, and Yandex. The parameters it measures are extensive, with many more available on the official website. There are some that are essential to SEO – Google Page Rank, Google Index, Domain Age, along with quick links to Who Is, IP identifier, Robots files, and Page Source.

I would suggest trying SEOQuake first with all the default settings to see which ones you personally make use on and then a second trial with only the parameters of your choosing.

The downside of using the extension, along with most add-ons for SEO is that it creates a very bulky browsing experience. The clear design of Google can soon become cluttered and its simplicity lost.

Another factor which some may not like how the results of the parameters do not load automatically. As a result you have to click on all the sections you wish to show. While this is understandable because of the strain on the browser this would create, along with the possible penalties of frequently requesting data from different providers, it can be frustrating not seeing immediate information.

It is the additional features from SEOquake that I find the most useful – inbound and outbound links on a page, keyword density, and site comparison. You can also see all the information available on a ‘Page view’ feature.

This is probably my favourite feature and a good alternative if you don’t want your browser to be slowed down by the different toolbars.

Pros: Easy to gather very useful data you need for everyday SEO

Cons: Can slow down your browser and you will need to tinker with what parameters you find useful
