Smart Traffic SEO Tip #21 – Ways to block your Site from Google – Use of Server-side Authentication

Previously, we discussed two effective methods in blocking a site from Google. Another useful and effective method – the use of server-side authentication.

According to Google, server-side authentication (requires password/username) is the best way to prevent them from indexing your site. This is because robots won’t be able to crawl a page if it is password protected which requires visitors to enter their username and password. Another advantage of using this method is that you can limit the persons who can view your site, destined only for selected viewers. So if you have a sensitive site intended only for selected people and not to the general public and Search Engines including Google, then use Server-side Authentication.
