Why Twitter’s New Look and Search Feature is something to “Chirp” About

Just recently, I got reacquainted with my Twitter account. The sudden urge to do so was prodded by the blog post that the social networking site released about two days ago. Ever since the novelty of constantly updating the rest of the world with details of my day has worn off, I have sadly managed to drop out of circulation.

Apart from making improvements to the old user interface, Twitter has also managed to squeeze in a new search tool. In the old days, doing a random search here would get you mixed results – typically all tweets that mention your desired keyword. However, the updated version already categorises them according to those with links or those near your location. If you happen to be looking for a particular store, the classification bit comes in handy. For instance, I have a soft spot for granola bars and finding an establishment that makes or sells them has become much easier. Once I was done submitting a search query, I simply click on the People tab and voila! I can now get the latest news about my favourite breakfast staple from the makers themselves. Want a shortcut? Simply click on the Who To Follow tab and do the search from there. See the screenshots below and compare for yourself.

The move to get organised is also evident on the Home page. If you look at the screenshot below, you will be able to see that the tweet updates you receive in a more convenient manner. Having shed its feathers to reveal a more streamlined appearance, the new Twitter has proven to be something we should be excited about.
