Calculate Google Page Rank

Friday, May 29th, 2009

I am not a fan of Google Page rank when it comes to SEO. But I find it useful to measure the popularity and importance of the page. One of the most common questions is, can we calculate Google PR? Mathematically, yes… By understanding its principle we can approximate Google page rank given its factors according to the original definition. Though, this is not entirely accurate or updated, at least it can give some clue, here it goes.

Theory:
The PR of your page is a a function or summation of the inbound link pages PR in the internet. Or simply written as:

PR (of your page) = PR (inbound link page1) + PR (inbound link page2) + …PR (inbound link pagex) = Σ PR(inbound link page 1 to x)

Breaking down further, it can also be written as:

Log(Total PR weight to the base Z) = Calculated Google page rank = [Z^PR(inbound link page1)/Number of links in page1] + [Z^PR(inbound link page2)/Number of links in page2] + …

Where the base of Z can be computed using tips from this post: Approach in computing Google tool bar Page Rank Logarithm Base
